Check out this panorama of the inauguration. You can zoom in and out and see incredible detail of what's happening during the speech. The photographer used a fairly inexpensive ($299) gigapan robotic controller that you attach to a tripod and it controls your small digital camera to take hundreds of pictures then use their software to stitch it all together and then post at the gigapan community.
